Prayer or doing
One form of prayer is to ask the Divine power to fix some problem, as in the song Oh Lord give me a Mercedes Benz. However in non-theistic religions like Buddhism there is no God who is ready to fix things. So instead of prayer we find here the first step towards manifestation. It is a do it ourselves attitude.
In theistic religions like Christianity and Islam we ask God to do things. In non-theistic religions and world views we let mind solve the problems.
Many individuals are perfectly happy with prayer as the means to improve reality. It is a well known method. The other method, to use mind for problem solving, is probably not so well known and accepted.
The principle here is that manifestation is a three step process. It starts with an idea in a mind. The next step is verbal. The idea is discussed and analyzed. The third step is material manifestation. If the original idea was to build a home, the third step is the actual erection of the house.
The first step is very similar to prayer. It is having an idea about a possible improvement. But there is also a very important difference between prayer and embarking on the process leading to manifestation.
In the mind alternative, mind is given the task to solve the problem. Mind can solve any problem. So it is perfectly rational to let mind do this job.
But many of us does not have a personal experience of mind as efficient problem solver. So there is a distrust.
This distrust is usually caused by two different factors. One is the time gap. Mind can never give what we want immediately. Mind must process our wishes. It can take considerable time.
The other factor is that we give mind contradictory orders. One day we want to build a home, the next day we think about buying a dog. And very often our pure ambition is questioned by our environment. “You will never be able to build a house.”
This negativity is in fact a proof of the power of mind, but we experience it as proof of the powerlessness of mind. Mind is very powerful, and our ideas of improvement can lead to manifestation if they are let alone.
But if we get doubts, these doubts will also be powerful. They might neutralize our original ideas.
One reason for inequality between men and women is probably that so many men and women constantly claim that women can not do what men can do. These routine mind defilements disturb our enthusiasm and makes thing dull and hopeless.
