To defuse tension does not mean to accept the unacceptable, but to deal with reality in a rational way. Difficult and drastic conflicts seem to call for intense and drastic action. But it is the other way around. Cool analysis is in particular need in difficult and drastic situations.
One difficulty is that some minds only accept physical arguments. Hitler is the great example. He ignored international justice and claimed he had rights over the territories occupied by German forces.
The tensions caused by this were immense, and impossible to defend in the long run. The normal, good state is as tensionless as possible.
The present conflict in Afghanistan is difficult to solve, as the will to reach a tensionless state is so alien for many inhabitants. The problem is not military or even social but on mind level. Military action might make the problem more difficult.

Getting help 2
How to solve our problems, and also our inability to solve our problems?
All problems are on mind level. They are adventitious. They can be removed. Sometimes it is easy, sometimes it is quite difficult.
Often we see problems as external. They might have an external aspect. Then we can work with the external reality. It will not solve the problems by itself, but it will give us something to do while we solve the problem where it is, in our mind.
As children we are very dependent upon others in order to survive. This nice situation when we are taken care of we might want to keep for ever. But we do not have to do that. We get fine by giving rather than by getting.
If we get help we might feel reassured for some time, but if we have not the inner awareness, we are soon disappointed. The development of inner awareness is a delicate mind process. We have to do it ourselves. We can get help - in the form of ideas - but the help is just support, not the real thing.

Evil 2
Evil as the intense will to create problems in combination with an intense and disgusting feeling, is not a nice thing to handle when we meet it.
But evil is a comparatively natural reaction. It is not erased by progress. On the contrary, even in the most advanced and glorious situations, new sneaky opportunities for evil to emerge are created.
The first priority is to avoid evil. This is sometimes seen as anti-social behaviour. We should fight for our rights! Or should we? We should respect the rights of others, and thus have our own rights respected.
Instead of accepting any evil routine, we should try to scale down the use of evil in any situation.
It is natural but wrong to fight the symptoms of evil. We should dissolve the cause. The cause is on mind level.
If you ever have tried evil you know that the cause is on mind level - it is the fierce planning of being nasty.
This is the root of the problem.
